Progress

Doin' work and takin' names... Sorry I'm a little crazy right now. Little sleep and lots to do still. At least the content is all gathered. Just need to finish putting it all together! I'm doing the herbal remedies page. We kind of decided to split up the project by topic. There are four topics and four of us so it makes sense to do it that way!  Here's to a hectic week.

Interview

Well Dillin and I went to an herb guy! Not sure what to call him... Herbologist? Anyway, he talked about Chinese medicine and what it can help with. We audio recorded the interview and are going to use it for a Q and A type presentation. There will be typed questions and then under it there will be "play" buttons where people can click and listen to the answer directly from the practitioner! We also got photos. Very excited to make this happen.

Last interview tomorrow with a yoga instructor! Planning on doing an audio slideshow or just like the herbal guy, depending on what kind of responses we get.

Crunch time

Well break is nearly over, it's really time to get crunching on this convergence project. Feels like I have way too much to do with multiple class projects and graduating coming at me all at once... Ready to knock everything out! I'll keep you posted!

Weird...

For some very strange reason my posts haven't been going through... So I guess you get four posts at once. Both the Kansas City blog and the website blog should've been posted at least a week or  so ago!! So very odd I will have to monitor my posts and make sure they actually go through this time!

Website

Working on the web page! It's located here: http://www.altmedconvergence.wix.com/home

It might not be available yet, as it is still under construction!

Kansas City

Well the team and I went to Kansas City this weekend. We interviewed an acupuncturist and a hypnotherapist. The interviews went really well and we got a lot of really good stuff to put on the website. We are going to edit the videos soon and they both want to have copies when we're done! We kind of asked them the same questions so it will be easy to compare and contrast the responses.
All of us actually got some acupuncture while we were there. We had to sign a waiver and we all got to experience what it felt like to have it done.

On Thursday we are going to interview a lady that does Reiki. She has a place here in Manhattan so we won't have to travel far to see her.

Coming up next we are going to contact a massage therapist and a yoga instructor, as well as track down someone that works with herbs and vitamins.

Dragging

Kind of getting stressed about this project not really sure the direction that it's going to go in... Starting to get to crunch time it feels like I have way too much to do and not enough time to do it.

Leads

Well I've been busy trying to find people to interview. I have a lady in Manhattan that does reiki and one in KC that does hypnotherapy. They both are willing to talk to me,  just gotta meet with them and explain what I am doing. Hopefully they'll let me video record them during the interview and also get some broll of their practices!

Maybe I'll even get a reiki or hypnotherapy session done to myself!

New Project

Well I'm working in a new project with three guys in my class: Clay, Dillon and Parker. We are covering the topic of alternative medicine. Within this category there are many subcategories, some we are focusing on are reiki, acupuncture, herbal meds, light therapy and crystal work, among others. Hopefully we can do three or four and dive into those. We have been making contact with people and just trying to get people to open up and talk to us. I'm excited for energy work and hope I can work mainly in that area; dividing up that section would probably be the easiest way to do this. There is a lot of scientific information and we need to keep everything straight!

Final

Well I was up til four working on this project. It was harder than I thought it'd be to form a story from the jumbled quotes. I also found it difficult to make the story long enough. I added a lively song so I think that made the whole piece.

Car photos

I've got some great photos of the event, just gotta match it up to the audio! Trying to figure out how to set up this story so it makes sense. Deadline is next Thursday!

Nebraska

It's kinda pretty here. Leaving the car auction and heading back to Manhattan!

Auction Day!

View from the auction in Saturday! Talking to strangers is definitely a challenge for me, but I think I got some good sound bites!

Audio Slideshow

In the middle of nowhere Pierce, NE for an antique car auction. Already can tell this is gonna be an interesting picture story!

The History Channel is here, doing a spot to be aired tomorrow night! Check it out! Also there's a lot of reporters and people in general.

We're camping in a farmers yard with a tent, so this will be interesting. Luckily we are away from the majority of the people camping so it's quieter and less rowdy.

We'll see how tomorrow goes!

Note

Just a note, Blogger is probably the worst site ever. It never works the way it's supposed to, links are broken, and it's hard to change any kind of template without it completely freaking out.

Completion!

Well, here is my piece for my convergence class.  I took out a little sound that was distracting, which cleaned up the piece a little bit.  This is it in its completion! Enjoy!

Presentation

Well we presented today in class. My piece seemed to go over well. I think I out in unnecessary nat sound in some spots which I'll take out before posting on here (if I can figure it out)... Everyone did a pretty good job out of what we've heard so far. I'm excited to hear my story probably more than the one I created  it's weird been on the other end of the microphone.

Done

I finished the audio piece at 4AM. Running on barely any sleep is not fun but I'm done for a little bit. The piece I exported in .wav and .mp3 just to be on the safe side when presenting. Bring on the critiques.

Powering through

Its almost 2:30 in the morning and I'm just now getting around to figuring out what I'm going to say in between my speakers clips. I wish I didn't have two projects and a test tomorrow in addition to this all due tomorrow. Could be a lot easier if they were spaced out, but alas, here I am.

Interview

I had my interview with Katya on Sunday. I went and met her and we recorded each others stories. I used a zoom recorder and she talked for about twenty minutes. So far I have it edited down to about 4 minutes of content! Whew. I have some basketball sounds that I found and will put in. I think I'm going to have to do a little voice over work to make sure it has a nice intro and flows smoothly. So far so good!

First newscast

Well we had our first newscast today in my MC 406 class. I was a reporter so I made a package which was about the reptile expo. I brought in an actual bearded dragon to be on my jacket while I talked on camera. It was a chaotic show to say the least. No one knew what was going on or how the show worked. We had little to no direction but powered through it and it will be airing on Channel 8 locally. Here's to hoping next week goes smoother!

Busy Bee

I've got so much going on its crazy. It's my senior year and I picked up another job so now I have three! Why do I do this to myself?! This semester will definitely test how much patience I have and how well I can balance all of my classes, work, and extracurriculars. For now, I'm sitting at Kite's having lunch with friends, enjoying some free time before the week gets too hectic. Let's go!
